S-Pop, or Sanskrit Pop, is a contemporary music genre developed by Dr. Krupesh Thacker that brings Sanskrit language, literature, stotrams, mantras and philosophical expression into contemporary Pop, electronic and cinematic musical frameworks. The genre explores how the linguistic and metrical characteristics of Sanskrit, including its traditional chhandas, can be interpreted through modern rhythm, melody, songwriting and music production.

Genre development and Music Therapy for All

S-Pop was developed within the broader vision of Music Therapy for All, an initiative founded by Dr. Krupesh Thacker that seeks to make the therapeutic and wellbeing potential of music more accessible to people across different ages, backgrounds and circumstances.

Within this vision, S-Pop explores how Sanskrit, contemporary popular music and accessible musical production can come together to create music that listeners can engage with more easily.

S-Pop is formed from:

The term identifies the combination of a Sanskrit linguistic and cultural foundation with contemporary popular-music aesthetics.

This naming structure follows the broader convention seen in genre labels such as J-pop and K-pop, where the prefix identifies the cultural or linguistic origin and “pop” identifies the popular-music framework. J-pop, for example, is defined as an abbreviation of Japanese popular music, while K-pop denotes Korean popular music.

It is defined through the interaction of Sanskrit and contemporary Pop, rather than through language alone. It is characterized by the interaction of Sanskrit expression with contemporary popular music.

Fusion of Sanskrit Verses with Contemporary Lyrics

Dr. Krupesh Thacker developed an approach within S-Pop that integrates ancient Sanskrit verses, stotrams and mantras with original contemporary lyrics. The Sanskrit passages are blended into the flow of the contemporary song rather than presented as separate traditional recitations, allowing the Sanskrit text and contemporary lyrics to become part of the same musical composition.

This approach was developed through early works such as “Aa Kevi Karamat, Madhurashtakam” and “Vansadi Na Sur, Krishnashtakam,” where Sanskrit compositions were woven into contemporary Gujarati songwriting.

Origins | Historical Timeline

2001 | Early Origins

Dr. Krupesh Thacker began experimenting with the fusion of traditional Sanskrit mantras and contemporary sounds during his medical college years. These early experiments formed the deeper musical origins of what would later develop into S-Pop.

2015 | The Blueprint

The early public blueprint of S-Pop appeared through Kyan Chhe Kano?, released by Krup Music on February 14, 2015. The album included “Aa Kevi Karamat, Madhurashtakam” and “Vansadi Na Sur, Krishnashtakam,” integrating Sanskrit compositions with contemporary Gujarati songwriting.

2015–2024 | Development and Expansion

Over the following years, Krup Music released additional compositions incorporating Sanskrit with contemporary Gujarati and Hindi languages.

The approach expanded beyond the early Gujarati works, bringing Sanskrit verses, stotrams, mantras and philosophical expressions into different contemporary musical settings. Over this period, S-Pop developed as an ongoing body of music rather than a single album or experiment.

2025 | Major Breakthrough

A major breakthrough came with Sounds of Sanatan: Vol. 1, released in 2025. The S-Pop album went on to receive GRAMMY® consideration and subsequently achieved a 2026 Global Music Award win, marking an important international milestone for the genre.

The album featured “Resonant Roar of Hanuman,” an S-Pop composition that itself received 2025 GRAMMY® consideration.

2026 | Global Reach

By 2026, S-Pop had reached international music platforms and recognition beyond its original regional context.

“Resonant Roar of Hanuman” received an official nomination at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards (HIMA) 2026 in the World category. The composition is featured on Sounds of Sanatan: Vol. 1 and in the upcoming Hindi feature film Main Bhi Arjun: Parv.

This period marks the emergence of S-Pop from an experimental and regional musical approach into a global-facing contemporary Sanskrit music genre.
