Do we need Mother’s Day?

समुद्रवसने देवि पर्वतस्तनमण्डले ।
विष्णुपत्नि नमस्तुभ्यं पादस्पर्शं क्षमस्वमे ॥

Many people still begin their day with this shlok before putting their feet on mother earth. Today, on the occasion of mother’s day I couldn’t stop myself to bring this topic out. Since morning I see social media profile of people full with mother’s day wishes and adorable photos with their mother. I watched many poetry, short films and songs dedicated to mothers. The social media never look so good and positive any other day. Even I also put songs & poem according to the occasion. We at Give Vacha Foundation also go to old age or do some activity to celebrate it. But then I had a question in mind. “Do we really need Mother’s Day?”.

We all love our mother & many people online also acknowledged the fact that everyday is mother’s day but today we are just expressing the feelings openly. It is the most precious relation to each and every one. Not in humans, in animals, birds or in any other living creature we can witness this love.

Then why this question suddenly? Well there is one more mother, mother of all of us. She is the one giving us all the life elements from birth till our last breath. Yes, I am talking about Mother EARTH. Suddenly, I had a question in mind “Am I loving mother earth as much as I love my mother?”. Well my answer was “Yes”. I pray this shlok and apologize to the mother earth every morning before putting my feet on her. I don’t throw garbage anywhere. I don’t do pollution. I don’t cut trees. I had enough reasons to convince myself for this answer. We all will have. But if we turn to our favorite internet and do a little bit of search, we will find enough proof and reasons about the current situation of planet. Mother earth is shouting (not calling) for our attention and love. May be she is left unattended. She is not getting the love she deserves. May be we haven’t accepted her as our mother yet.

So how can we do it? Well, all of us know the steps we need to take. We even celebrate “Earth’s Day” and do those thing for a day of few. But is that enough? I will keep it up to YOU. Now is the time to implement that knowledge into action; EVERYDAY.
